Orthobiologic and regenerative medicine from OC Wellness Physicians Medical Group

OC Wellness Physicians Medical Group offers advanced orthobiologic and regenerative medicine therapies to address the root cause of chronic pain, accelerate natural tissue repair, and reduce or eliminate the need for invasive surgery. Our goal is to get you back to your daily activities, work, and hobbies — with longer-lasting results than conventional pain management alone.

What is regenerative medicine and how does it differ from conventional pain treatment?

Regenerative medicine — more precisely known as orthobiologic medicine — uses cellular therapies and naturally derived biologics to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms. Unlike conventional treatments such as steroid injections, which provide temporary relief and carry potential side effects, orthobiologics target injured tissue directly, promoting long-term repair and functional restoration with minimal risk.

With the emergence of advanced orthobiologic therapies, the need for artificial joint replacement has been significantly reduced for many patients. These treatments use cellular therapies and growth factors derived from your own body to stimulate and accelerate the repair and regeneration of soft tissue, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments.

What conditions and tissue types does orthobiologic therapy treat?

Orthobiologics target injured connective tissue and joints throughout the body. Conditions treated include:

  • Tendons (e.g., rotator cuff injuries, Achilles tendinitis)
  • Ligaments (e.g., chronic ankle sprains, AC joint ligaments)
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • SI joint pain and dysfunction
  • Shoulder pain and instability
  • Golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow
  • Chronic ligament or tendon problems
  • Spine facet joint pain and dysfunction
  • Osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, shoulder, and spine joints
  • Osteoarthritis / cartilage damage (e.g., knees, shoulders, hips, hands)

What orthobiologic therapies are available at OC Wellness?

Depending on your diagnosis, history, and treatment goals, our physicians may recommend one or more of the following orthobiologic therapies:

  • Bone Marrow Aspiration Concentrate (BMAC)
  • Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
  • Adipose Tissue
  • Amniotic Tissue
  • Cord blood-derived therapies

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

PRP uses a small amount of your own blood to promote healing. Your blood is processed to concentrate platelets and plasma proteins, which are then injected directly into the source of pain during an outpatient procedure or following repair surgery. The plasma’s powerful growth factors activate natural healing and rapid tissue regeneration in the targeted area. When the healing process completes — typically around six weeks — the chronic pain subsides.

Stem cells and bone marrow aspiration concentrate (BMAC)

Stem cells are specialized building blocks containing growth factors with cell-signaling properties. When injected into an injured tendon, ligament, muscle, or joint, they stimulate healthy tissue remodeling and regeneration. BMAC is obtained by extracting bone marrow from the pelvic bone, concentrating it in a centrifuge, and injecting it into the damaged area. BMAC is rich in stem cells, proteins, and growth factors that reduce inflammation and support healing.

When applied to an arthritic joint, stem cell therapies may produce new healthier cartilage cells, suppress inflammation, and release cytokines that slow cartilage degeneration and decrease pain.

Adipose tissue

Adipose tissue (fat cells) has remarkable self-renewing and healing properties. The tissue is typically obtained from the waist, processed to remove impurities and inflammatory components, and then injected at the pain site to repair and regenerate damaged tissue.

Amniotic tissue

Due to their rich cellular content and hyaluronic acid presence, amniotic membrane and fluid therapies reduce inflammation and promote healing directly in affected tissues and joints. OC Wellness Physicians Medical Group is one of the few practices in the country offering both amniotic stem cell treatment and umbilical cord blood therapy.

Umbilical cord blood and Wharton’s Jelly

Cord blood is collected after birth with no harm to the mother or baby. It contains a beneficial blend of cytokines, growth factors, and stem cells that foster tissue remodeling, restore immune balance, and promote cellular growth and blood flow to damaged areas. Wharton’s Jelly — the cord tissue surrounding the umbilical vessels — contains millions of mesenchymal stem cells rich in peptide growth factors that support collagen production and cartilage growth.

Who is a good candidate for regenerative medicine?

Patients who suffer from osteoarthritis or injuries to cartilage, ligaments, tendons, and soft tissue typically achieve excellent results from orthobiologic therapies. Regenerative medicine is particularly well-suited for patients who have experienced a failed surgery, are not candidates for surgery, or want to avoid an invasive procedure. Conditions well-matched to these therapies include:

  • Tendon tears and chronic tendinitis
  • Partial ligament tears
  • Arthritis of the knee, hip, shoulder, or spine
  • Cartilage damage
  • Chronic pain unresponsive to conservative care

How does OC Wellness personalize orthobiologic treatment?

At OC Wellness, we take a fully individualized approach to orthobiologic care. Our medical team evaluates your complete history, imaging, and clinical presentation before recommending the most appropriate therapy and delivery method. Our integrative model combines cutting-edge regenerative therapies with complementary modalities — including Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, and Acupuncture — to address immediate pain relief and promote long-term functional restoration.

Our orthobiologic approach is built on three core principles: Quality, Precision, and a Comprehensive Treatment Plan tailored to your specific goals and recovery timeline.
